Default Homemade Electric Speed Boat Project

Hi, I'm new to R/C Boating and I'm starting a new project.

My project is to build a Speed Boat roughly 1m long, by 20-30cm wide. I have all the electronics and controller.

But i need help with the design and how to build it. I have a rough idea of the design.

Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Sean.

Well, what style of hull are you after? Mono, hydro, cat, tunnel? There are some free plans on here. What kind of motor do you have? A meter hull is pretty big for an electric, especially with brushed motors.

Well the hull is a Hydro Plane, and I've changed the dimentions to 0.5 meter, I've made plans, on an AutoDesk Program "Inventor" and are cutting out the hull in 4 pieces, (I'm currently still at school)

and are using the ManArts block engraving machine to cut out the hull of machining foam, which I am then vacuum forming (about 3mm plastic) around each part and glue them together. Anyone see any problems with this???

(the reason I have chosen to vacuum form the plastic is because fiberglass is too expensive and hard to do when you have no experience with it)

The motor I'm using is an old rc brushless plane motor, this should be powerful enough (I think) the only thing i have for the motors are that they are 1400Rpm/V (this is all i know)

Any sugestions?

Thanks Sean.

Sounds interesting. Make sure you take some photos to show us what you are doing.

I'm too inexperienced on the electric boats to give advice and that side of things. But it may be worthwhile seeing if you can get a cheap set of running gear (flex shaft, strut, rudder etc). Have a look here for some prices from a Sydney shop Hobby Depot Home Page

Default Rudder???

I'm planning on using a servo to control the rudder, what is a "hydrolic rudder"??? and I'm looking for really cheap low cost items for this boat
Also I have already with me a motor, ESC, Reciever and Large Servo for the rudder anything else I need, appart from the rudder, prop and drive shaft (the one on the motor needs extending)???

Something like this is what you need Hobby Depot - Remote Controlled Jets, Boats and Cars

You will also need a collet to connect the drive shaft of the motor to the flex shaft to drive the prop.

What is a collet, and why do I need to conect this to a flex shaft?

And is there any rudder kit or any other parts I still need under $100 that is in Australia?
