Default aluminum hull?

Hi guys
i am new in this game,
i got this boat idea when i found a 38cc chainsaw engine laying around,

i am planning to build a mono hull from 1.2mm aluminum,
has anyone tried that?

I decided to go with this project,
downloaded the 72" offshore mono,
and allready got some part cut with a laser from 1mm aluminum (the 1/8" parts),
and going to cut the 1/4" parts from 2mm aluminum.

i bought this prop, 67mm with 3 blades and 109mm pitch Arrow Shark 67mm factory balanced/sharpened prop - eBay (item 370346258306 end time Jul-05-10 21:29:29 PDT)

and found some sprockets and chain 22/13 or 22/11
i am planning to take the engine from a ryobi 4545 (45cc, 3.6hp) chainsaw.

i also bought strut, flex cable, stuffing tube, 162mm centre rudder.

i would appreciate if somebody with some experience post comments on this,
i have never owned or built a RC boat before.

i also wonder how "torqy" servo do i need for the rudder?

Props similar to the one you bought are very common and work well on a lot of boats. However chainsaw engines usually turn clockwise when looking at the output side of the engine and that prop is made to turn counterclockwise so you may want to check that. I'm not sure what you are intending to use the sprockets and chain for and I don't know anything about that motor. Make sure you post pics of the build here so we can see how it goes. Doug

Default aluminum boat hull

Hi baotman here
Are you going to use pop rivets to assembel the hull ? It might be tough to seal it up on the seams . Are you going to tig it together ,just some thoughts you might consider good luck baotman

thanks for feedback,
the sprocket and chain is to be used for having the engine "wrong way" and speed up the rpm, similar to this setup.

the bottom and sides will be tig welded together, and maybe pop rivets other places for easier dismantle if i shold need that.

whats best of surface drive or subsurface?

Surface drive is better, no contest in my opinion. Doug
