Default atlas

Hi John,
Thanks so much for posting the atlas hydro. I have a 13 year old that wants to build this boat in his design/engineering class in middle school. I've downloaded the plans and am wondering if you happen to have some sort of step by step build instruction sheet. We've not done something like this before but have done other models. I'm sure that we could put the boat together and that I could give him some help from home on what to do at school, but fear that we would glue something in out of order. Any help you can provide would be great, if not that is fine too.

Also, he will be doing a 1/16th scale rather than 1/8th so it will be 21" long. Is there any info on the gas motor to use and how many channels I need for the remote? Or should I take it to the local hobby shop? What parts do I need for the drive and steering? For the frist motor I was thinking something that is plenty powerful but nothing exotic that adds cost. He needs to learn how to build and how to drive before going all out on performance. I learned this early on with racing cars, as power is a mask for poor driving skills. I want him to learn first.

Thanks for all your help if you have any advise and instructions. Feel free to just email me at roger.roatch@apawood.org. roger dot roatch at apawood dot org.

Which set of Atlas plans did you download? The ones pointed to by John in this thread is already 1/16 scale and includes an instruction sheet for building. 21" is a very small boat and probably best suited for an electric motor. There is no gas motor that I know oh that is small enough for a boat this size. If you mean a glow fuel motor, I think I would stick to a .12 size engine. Doug

Default 21" boat

Thanks Doug for clarifying. I went to the free download portion and found a 1982 model Atlas that is 42" and just scaled down. That one doesn't have the instructions.

Thanks also for clarifying the glow fuel vs gas, you are correct that is what I was referring too so the size is good that you mentioned. If the 1982 version that I downloaded doesn't have instructions that might be OK, could be that I can use the instructions from the 1977 you pointed out, what do you think?
